We hypothesized that the use of Viagra will increase the risk of CVD and diabetes, and therefore cardiovascular death, by increasing the risk of CVD and diabetes. Methods: This retrospective study was performed using the data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1992 to 1998, including 4,000 men aged 18–64 years (mean age 52 years) who were prescribed Viagra. The participants were examined for the presence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and/or cardiovascular death, as well as for risk of CVD and diabetes, and cardiovascular death. Results: The overall prevalence of cardiovascular disease was 14.5%, and the overall prevalence of diabetes was 11.5%. The risk of CVD was higher in participants who received Viagra, than those who were not prescribed the medication, and the risk of diabetes was higher in those who had a history of cardiovascular disease and/or diabetes.
